Changing Firmware Update Options

You can choose between simple and advanced firmware settings.

When firmware updates are available, go to the simple settings page to install them directly from the Internet. Use the advanced firmware settings page to download updates to a network computer and install them to the Media Vault.

To change firmware update options
  1. At the computer, click Start, All Programs, HP Media Vault, and then Control Center.
  2. On the Tools tab, click Customize HP Media Vault.
  3. You are prompted for an administrator name and password if you set one up. For additional information, see Editing System Settings.
  4. On the System tab, click Edit.
  5. Click Firmware Options.
  6. The Simple Settings page displays.
  7. If you want your Media Vault to automatically check for and install firmware updates, check Automatically check for new firmware.
  8. Check Raise alert when new firmware is available to display a message box on your network computer when new firmware is downloaded and ready to install.
  9. Select the frequency for checking for updates from the Check for new firmware every drop down list.
  10. Click Save.
To install firmware updates immediately

There are two ways that the HP Media Vault notifies you of firmware updates. One is on the HP Media Vault tab of the Administration Console. If there is a Yes next to New Firmware Available, click Install. The Firmware Options Simple Settings page opens. Click Install Firmware to start the installation. The Media Vault automatically reboots when the install is complete.

The other way the Media Vault notifies you of a firmware updates is by an alert on your network computer. Click OK to close the alert. Open the Administration Console and follow the above steps to install the update immediately.

To save firmware updates to a computer and install

If your HP Media Vault does not have an Internet connection or if you want to control when firmware updates are installed, clear the Automatically check for new firmware check box. It is recommended that you periodically check for firmware updates on the HP support web site.

  1. From a network computer, go to www.hp.com/support and download the firmware update.
  2. Specify a location on the network computer for saving the file.
  3. Once the file is downloaded, go to the HP Media Vault Administration Console as described in To change firmware update options above.
  4. Click the System tab and then click Edit.
  5. Click Firmware Options and then click Advanced Settings.
  6. Browse to the download location and click Install Firmware.
  7. The update installs on the Media Vault. The Media Vault automatically reboots when the install is complete.
